Trying to think like the show folks, it seems like this would work good on Charolais or Smokies to keep the smoke thing going but make the calves extra hairy and thick. The black one is the sire.
Or for marbled beef as a terminal cross on Charolais cross cows.

The dun is Big Deal Alp Yodel 31A and his sire (the black) is Dun Gal Yodeller 16Y.
16Y has another son, 19A, in the Genuine Genetics Bull Sale that is pretty right on for traditional type. He's in that link http://customerservice.liveauctions.tv/data/AuctionBlock/SaleOrder/2015_sale_flyer.pdf
I bought a bull from Big Deal in the fall and it was hard to pass that dun up. He is a real grass fed type.
The reason I am always looking at duns is that, rational or not, a certain low set, short headed type (good feeders) seems to go along with that color. I see it all the time. It's interesting to me that colors that have been consistently culled due to fashion (rigged, color sided) persist. Maybe those that escaped culling did so by being extraordinary and we see it in the survivors?

This is another one I like, RSS Uri Sundog. He also shows the dun characteristics I am talking about.

A good friend if mine has a white big deal bull and gets real good cross bred calves with some color. Here's a calf from the white bull and a commercial cow
