I know Grandmaster is a negative 3 bw epd with good accuracy but im wondering more about the age old calf shape question ? Do they come really thick and blocky or not ? Like it has been said on here a thousand times before calf shape matters way more than a 3 pound less than average weight . Trying to make some last minute breeding decisions on some yearling simmy heifers . Use him or not to use him ??? Thanks

I asked the same question to the owner about 3 weeks ago and received the following response:

calving on correctly managed heifers has not been a problem any where. birth weigts have stayed down, he will power them up but you will probly not like them for about 30 days, then they explode and come on to the point that you may not reconize them, had a lady send a message the other day about GM calves on her angus donor. the calves on recips were in with her clubby bred cattle and she was not really liking the GM bull calves at the time. she messaged back a couple of weeks later and apoligized because they were stouter and thicker than her club calf cattle and loved them. as far as GM cattle in IA,I dont really know we sold about 17,000 units on the bull last year all across the country and im sure their has to be some out there.

Johnnie

Hope this helps, I tried to breed some last year but didn't get any stuck. Will try again this year. Good luck.

I have had 6. Did not touch one of them. They are not the stoutest calves at birth, but they do change a bunch. Never seen one get more bone then these calves, but they were not born with it. All were around the 70lb mark but one was a little highter but she had a big Dream On calf too so she holds some of the weight.

Ditto.  We've had two this year out of heifers.  Popped out with no issues. Now they are about 3 months old and both look good, well balanced.  Happy with Grandmaster so far and will use him on heifers in the future.

We have one really nice steer that is thick, hairy and big boned. He is out of a Triple C Invasion daughter. We also have a heifer out of a Momas Boy daughter. That is pretty nice.  Weighed around 80 pounds.

I have a January of 2010 Grandmaster heifer in my show herd, and she stands out big time. She's feminine and deep and also has ample of mass and power. I also have some Grandmaster embryos in my tank that I am excited about that were flushed with sexed female semen. All of the calves that I have seen out of him haven't been disappointing in the least. From what I've seen and heard, hes a great calving ease option.
