Evening at Oakbar

As things quieted down this evening and the sun got low I noticed some of our cows were framed by the oaks in that great, soft evening light.  I thought some of the rest of you might enjoy this picture as well!!

What a great picture! I think, for some of us who get so busy, we forget to take the time to stop and absorb some of the wonderful moments like this that our rural lifestyle provide. Personally, I would never trade it for a multimillion dollar home in the burbs. Thanks for sharing this!

  I think that is my definition of peace and tranquillity.

Definitely reminds me of some areas back home, where I live now trees aren't exactly an indigenous species.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the great comments!!  Yes, the picture appears peaceful but the wind was blowing so dang hard that I had a devil of a time holding the camera still.
I actually wasn't sure the picture would even turn out.    Tony, we do hit golf balls across this pasture--we have a cup and flag on the lawn on the other side of it.  We don't usually do this unless the cows are out in  the big pasture and we do assess hefty penalties for balls that end up on the near side of the fence(you may be forced to go get the beer for everyone else or something serious like that). 

The cows are in a small, bowl shaped pasture just north of our house that we use for heat detection because we can see most of it from our patio door.  I confess, we do mow it with the lawn mower 2-3 times per year---we have plenty of taller grass and weeds in our other pastures, though.  We also use it for any pasture sales that we have.    The neat thing about it for me is that in the mornings and the evenings when the weather conditions are right it catches that really, soft, diffuse light that makes everything look really good.  It truly is the Lord's way of telling me to appreciate what I have right here at home!!  I hope you all take time to appreciate your gifts today as well!!

I don't want this to go to Lynn's head (its already too late), but Jacob and I refer to his place as "Shorthorn Heaven"  along with another farm in Dunlap Iowa for other reasons....

Yeah something like that I guess.

I grew up about 2,500 miles from here, the farm name "Shady Lane" was adopted by my parents about 35 years ago and have just kept using it because my dad and I still own some cows together in both locations.

Back home the farm where I was born had very big trees ligning both sides of the driveway and I guess that's how they came up with the name (original I know)

Later, we moved to a different farm (over 20 years ago) about 20 miles west of the original location, that farm has some massive Sugar Maples in the yard and in the fence lines, some of which are likely close to 6' in diameter. Either side of the drive at that farm is ligned by large Silver Maples.

We like our Maple trees in Canada eh?

  Now where I live, like I said tress are not exactly indigenous, there are trees surrounding the house yard and rows of Caragana as wind breaks but beyond that there are very few.

If I look to the west I can just see the Rocky Mountains on a clear day, to the east.... Ummmm not much but bald Prarie, I can't see Justintimes house from here, but close!
