Fall 2011 Calf Photos - Finally (Courtesy of ZNT)

It's been an extremely busy and hectic year around our place for a variety of reasons, but we (actually ZNT) finally got around to taking some calf photos when we had cows gathered up last Wednesday to start the synchronization process. 

Monopoly x Friction. 
This is the first calf that jumps out at you when you go in the pasture.  Huge bone, just a moose of a calf. 

My Turn x (Meyer son x Cunia too)
This is Zane's early pick.  This is his momma's second calf and with our lack of grass that has affected her milk a little, he's a little greener than the others.  Beautifully made calf.  Picture doesn't really do him justice.

Smilin Bob x Smithbilt GD
My wife's favorite.  Out of a really good, older cow. 

Troubador x (Yellowjacket x Cunia Too)
Out of a first calf heifer.  It's early, but probably the best Char-X calf I've ever raised.  Curious to see how he takes off when he gets on creep feed.

Monopoly x Meyer GD
Out of another one of our top 3-year old mommas.  I bet he gets better and better with age.

Wish she had a little more hair (bet you she's clean), but beautiful heifer calf that's just right in balance of maternal vs. muscle

Smilin Bob x (Cunia Too x Sim-Ang)
Love her.

We didn't get around to getting photos of several other good calves including some Walks Alone steers (in another pasture) and a really good Montego Bay x Golden Child heifer.

This calf crop is their best I've seen since working with the Chambers and Graves families. The quality is top notch, but even more impressive is the depth of quality. We could have picked out calves all day long to picture, but we just didn't have the time.  The cattle are doing great inspire of the drought. A few timely rains this fall has made a world of difference. Henrietta will be a "must" stop for anyone looking for a good one this spring.

I got the opportunity to ride through the pasture with Mr Chambers a while back...he has a really deep set of calves this year.  That Monopoly steer is gonna be a man among men if he turns out like I think he will, and I loved that Smilin Bob heifer the day I got to see her.  There was also a Walks Alone heifer I think that I really liked and a smoker Milkman heifer that really caught my. Along with many many more.  I hope I get to opportunity to go through them again when they are weaned and hopefully pick up a few.

Photo of the Troubador calf at birth on 8/21 when it was about 110 degrees.  Unassisted from first calf Yellowjacket heifer.  First calf we had born this year, about the size of a large drowned rat.

Congrats on a phenomenal crop of calves. Monopoly heifer ; Please reserve her for me. Best heifer I've seen in a picture this year. If she is clean...Well, she could buy the farm. And if she isn't, still a great one to reckon with. Just a bunch of cool calves.

Nice set of calves.  You are right about the Troubador calves.  Just need to give them some time.  It will be interesting to see how they develop.  I bet the Mono X Friction will be near the top of the heap.

I agree with Telo's.  That Monopoly heifer is going to be something very special.  Even more if she comes back clean, which I think she has a chance from some of her traits.  She is by far my number one pick for heifers, and I am sticking with my choice on steers.  That My Turn steer has all the parts there.  Both calves will be fun to watch as they mature!

That Monopoly Heifer is pretty special, I think I must have missed her that day, she dont have the most hair but that dont concern me in the least. She has everything else and that is more important.  That first Monopoly Steer is absolutely a stud!!!

No, we didnt get many to stick to him this year (cows fault, not him).  Only have the one steer that is pictured.  Weaning calves this weekend.
