I am using AAOK's ration that has been posted several times.  I thought it would be cheaper but is running me about $300/ton.  Is there any substitutions or alterations that can be made to it to make it cheaper?

The current ration is as follows:
1200 cracked corn
200 oats
400 cotton seed hulls
100 soybean meal
100 molasses

I like the way the calves look on this feed, just need to see if I can do anything to make it cheaper.

When did you get this price? Sounds pretty reasonable to me, If you havent priced it for a month it might scare you now.

$300/ton is pretty dang cheap IMHO. Somebody said take the hulls out but they are probably one of your cheapest ingredients and IMHO one of the most important.

I would agree, that is a very cheap price.  The one question I have with that mix, where are you getting your minerals and vitamins from?  Even if you have a trace mineral block set out, those animals aren't getting all they need.

Forgot to say that there is a mineral pack in the ration as well.

As is, this ration was balanced by OSU.  If you make changes, be sure to have your ration checked for balance.  I was told substituting shredded Beet Pulp for the hulls would not change the balance.
