We are discussing Show feed ingredients at home was wondering.

Ground Corn Vs Steam Rolled Corn
Barely Vs Steam Rolled Barely
Brewers Vs Soybean Meal

Why do we use one over the other.

Id be using:
Steam rolled corn- better fat cover on animals, smoother finish
Steam rolled Barley- again same reasons as corn
Soybean Meal- Higher protein, not as many issues with availability, I think it gives a better coat personally. Also better in grower rations.

Steam rolled is more digestible I believe.  It starts to break down the starches and the hard outer layer of the corn and barley for that matter.  I use both distillers grain and soy bean meal in my ration.  For me distillers grain is cheaper by about 7 bucks a hundred weight.
