This is our daughter's second year showing a steer project in 4-h (she is 10). Last year's steer would eat and eat and then eat some more - weighed in at our county fair at 1400 lbs. This year's steer is a picky eater at best (they would usually only eat 3/4 of their feed each feeding) - after looking on here we have fed him probois for 4 feedings and they are now licking the feed bunk clean (24 lbs. grain fed to 2 steers 2x a day - 12 lbs. of a show feed similar to ADM and 12 lbs. of our own grind and mix which consists of shelled corn, oats, SBM, liquid molasses and minerals mainly). I am wondering if cooked barley or corn will help him out - 2 weeks ago he weighed 855 and was 48 3/4 inch hip height at an April show. Our fair is middle of September. He is growing hair like a maniac with rinsing and blowing dry 5 times a week (he gets clipped every 2 -3 weeks to keep it under control) and is under 2 fans in the semi-dark. He is in with a companion calf who is her carcass animal. Also, how long should we feed the probios for? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!
