i have found that you tend to have better luck not doing well as a feeder calf if you want to do well as a fat. there are always those calves though that look good from day one till the last day of their life i know. however, it seems to be the trend, according to what i have noticed, that a show ready feeder calf will look stale and sometimes just extremely boring as a fat. The best looking fats we've raised were very green as calves but developed with time and turned out nicely as they got older.
