This Information is from steerplanet forum member R.N.Reed:
The bull on the memorial was called Avondale
an Ohio bred bull whose offspring dominated the Shorthorn breed in the early 1900's.
He would have been the Trump of that era.
One of the things of intrest about this venture
was the fact that it was put together by a group of businessmen, politicians and farmers
for the sole purpose of improving the quality of the local cattle.
Renick and 2 others were sent to England to find the best cattle of any breed that would meet their needs.
There was a lot of info gathering before the trip as well as many herd visits upon arrival
and it is interesting that they came home with all Shorthorns.
Both Felix and his brother George were among the first inductees of the Saddle and Sirloin club
and their portraits are at the expo center in Louisville.
Also there is a closed Shorthorn herd in Nebraska
that has a cow family whose female line can be traced directly to a cow that sold in this sale.
