Final steer photo...(calf progression photos added)

Well, tomorrow is the day our bred and owned steer "goes to town".  :'( Really, it is  ;D  (clapping)

He had a great run for my daughter (who is ten). He won champion steer at several blow and go shows, was 3rd overall at the MSU Bear Classic, Reserve Champion at our county fair (attached picture), and finally was Reserve Champion steer at the AJSA South Central Regional show in AR this week. He won the live portion of the carcass contest at our county fair, so we will see how he does on the rail.

Just thought I would update a pic. Pearl took pics today the the Classic, but I am sure they will not be up for awhile. I plan on buying one for my daughter...

OK, so I thought it would be cool to put up pics of the steer along the way. So all can see his progression. This steer was born April 3rd, out of my daughter's heifer (first calf). This is the first steer we have raised from conception to birth, so sort of fun!

The first pic was the calf at a month old
The second pic is him at about 60 days old...
The third and fourth pic was the calf at 4 months of age (still not cut).
I will reply with the remainder ....

The next pic would be him in December, so 8 months old...

Then in Feb (he was 1100 pounds by this point)

and then March

And last in April at the MSU bear classic.

It is kind of neat to see him progress so quickly in pictures!

Rachelle did really well.  Congrats good to see her compete and top ten at regionals! 

Thanks Shawn! She had a great time for her first regional show as a junior. We were just happy as can be when she placed 8th in Sales Talk! Not bad for a 10 year old, and the comments the judges made on her cards were really neat to read. I think I was more amazed that she made it to the final round in showmanship!!!!! WOW!

Your kids did awesome! You should post a brag here on steer planet! How many did you have in the final 10 of bred and owned? And owned???? Pretty darn good if you ask me!

I like the wet head/ frosting on the mouth look that so many baby calves always have.

How did your heifers do at regional?

We did pretty good. Our pair was 3rd overall, which was great! Our Oval F 3/4 blood heifer won her class (there were 4 others in her class), and was in the final drive, but did not get pulled into the top 10 percentage heifers overall (she is an April, so overpowered by the older fall heifers). Our bred and owned Grandmaster Feb calf won her class, and was in the final drive for bred and owned but not pulled up for the final 10 (she is just a baby, so we did not expect to get in the top 10). Our Upgrade was the biggest surprise. She had not been lower than 2nd most of the year (always followed Joel Butler's % heifer) and he put her bottom, making a comment that it was unfortunate that my daughter (10) could not get her set up for him (the heifer was being a putz, pushing her around and moving her rump sideways). At first, Joel's heifer was at the bottom (5th, I think), then he took one last look at the side profile and bumped up the Butler heifer 2 spots just as he started talking the class! She should have been in the top (she won MSU Bear Classic), so I am not sure what he was thinking! He never said a word about the middle heifers, just the top heifer and my daughter's heifer not setting up so he could not get a good look at her!
But we are happy regardless. Lots of awards and ribbons. And very happy kids, which makes life grand  (thumbsup)

Thanks for the kind words about my two!  We ended up putting four out of the five from our sting in the top ten in % or PB.  Kids did pretty good!  Exceeded my already lofty expectations.  I would like to send a huge congrats out to all the competitors, ESP the Show Me kids!

OK, update  ;D

This steer was 1364 at regionals (which ended Saturday), and was processed Tuesday. He dressed 890 pounds! That is right at 65%. Not bad for a purebred Simmental steer that was 14 months old!!! We have to wait for the carcass grading part, but I was jacked up when I heard his hanging weight!!!
