Just saw on the news where many flight are being cancalled or seeting cut back. KS city is on the list. I'm getting nervous hoping they don't cut my flight!
Anyone do a lot of flying for business? I used to fly into Albany, NY a lot. Bet that's one terminal that's getting cut.

i am driving from the bay area to reno instead of flying for a 3 day business trip (they do business in reno?).  it takes about the same amount of time, costs less, i have a hybrid, and it gives me more flexibility not to have to waste basically 2 hours to get to the airport and wait on the front end twice, sit around for a bit on the way in, rent a car, return it, keep track of receipts etc.  flying is getting to be too annoying.  it's amazing that we subsidize the mega expansion of airports but continually have to muster support for rail, which, with a few exceptions which are excellent, mostly suffer because there is no burlington northern around to show us how it's done.  burlington northern was a private line that undercut government lines.  out here, there is a commuter line called caltrain which for the most part is excellent, both in schedule, convenience and running on time.  pretty much it's only defect is suicides, and some slow sections that have not been upgraded for speed (it was/is an old freight line).  they can reasonably go about 60-75 mpg on good sections.  the upgrade to go 85 is simply too costly like in the eastern corridor.  at this point, i'm not for the bullet train in CA as demographics has changed the need to travel to LA and south from the north on a commuter type basis.  amazing how government just raises the cost and reduces the use of projects like this.  my brother/sister are flying to OK and only is flying because of a good deal on tickets.

I would use Amtrak more, but the train is never on time.....  I don't know who is in charge of running Amtrak?, but he needs fired and they need to hire a hardlining a****** who will "make the trains run on time" through whichever means necessary.  Going to Denver this year the train was 6.5 hours late going and 3 hours late coming home.... Ridiculous.  I could have saddled up a bow-legged foundered horse and got there faster.  Other than the wait time Amtrak is not a bad way to travel.  The trains are reasonably comfortable, when they are running they make pretty decent time (80 mph in the open country).  But they have got to run on time before I will use them again.  The time lost to waiting in a train station is worth the extra money to fly or drive IMO.

good thing we got all the "old" train tracks dug up all across the country......just wasnt cost effecient to "keep them up"  just a a few short years ago.....maybe put tracks down the middle of  say ........US 70... from east to west ?    just another another examle of our intra structure problems that that are attacking our country now.....or do you really feel comfortable  getting on a train builtt by the same minds who constructe large bulidings, and higway over passes, and all those other " low bid" tasks in todays choice of labor affecanotes........never enough inspectors to check out " all" these cranes being used as in nyc....but always enough inspectores to crawl all over the sites of these disasters for weeks and find exactually what bolt broke...... ???  j barl

I've always checked amtrack to see if it was cheaper to fly or ride home to Ohio...amazing how much a train ticket costs.  It was more expensive than flying, plus I'd have to sit 6hours in the chicago train station on a layover.  Guess I'm better off flying or just stay home

We have some elevator managers that had to shut down and stop taking in any wheat b/c they can't get any railcars in to move the existing stock. That, in turn, is causing the quality to deteriorate and then once they get cars, shipping the wheat will cause the market to dramatically drop due to the flood of wheat! The rail system is just not very attuned to the agricultural industry, but HEY! that won't be the first group to whole heartily enjoy us ::)

Our local newpaper ran a whole list of cool things to do for "staycations", when it is too expensive to travel.  Great idea!!
