ive got a calf with some decently long hair, however the problem with it is that it doesnt "pop" out. it is not like a fuzzy type hair or "fur" , it is more like long thin hair. I was wondering if anyone had some secrets they would share on how to make this lay flat hair stand out and be useful, thanks.  ???

by the sounds you are talking aboout the guard hair and i would take a set of clippers and trim all of them off and you will  have a soft fuzzy coat of hair under that

Some calves have that more ethnic type hair in general that is dense and fuzzy like a teddy bear. Some just have long straight hair. If you trim the hair closer to the body it may reduce the weight on it and more than likely will pop when shorter. Also, if you over condition and use too many products it may get weighted down. Genetics play a big role as well. Alot of heat wave calves have that dense furry hair. Our calves out of Northern Improvement had long straight hair and it never was really dense. Can you take a picture of it?

Also, how you work it with the brush and blower can make a difference as well. Are you blowing the calf out every time you rinse?
