Nice 1st buck or any buck at that, I'd be very proud!  (clapping) I can only wait as my boy just started crawling this week (6 months old), so can I start working with him to hold a rifle yet, lol. Your season open today? My deer season don't open till the 15th of this month, same opening day as elk for me, been bow hunting elk last couple weeks with no luck, now will have to wait till opening day of rifle season for deer and elk.

I'm from Texas and have been fortunate enough to hunt all over the county.  However, having two young sons has changed my perspective a little.  Its not nearly as much fun taking those weeklong trips when I have to leave them behind.  When we do go somewhere, I rarely take a gun.  My 13 year old is big enough to handle himself, but I'm usually helping my 10 year old now to pay extra care for safety.

Big M - one of my funniest hunting memories was being left at home babysitting when my oldest was about six months old on the opening weekend of deer season here in Texas.  I couldn't stand the thought of not being in the hunting blind the opening evening, so I loaded up the diaper bag along with my gun and away we went.  I'll kid you not, my boy pooped three times while we were in the deer blind.  I changed his diapers - the whole time we were covered up in deer in our wheat field. I had to open the windows completely up to be able to stand it.  It apparently didn't bother the deer one bit.  Needless to say I haven't spent a penny on "scent control" products ever since.  I tease him about it to this day.

Drag those kids with you every time you go!  Someday, we'll be begging them to take us with them.

Awesome! Way better than my first deer! This weekend was opening weekend of bow season in Texas. We took a doe, a management buck, and 3 pigs. Mr. Chambers knows me personally and would agree that my passion for cattle and hunting would be a toss up. I'm extremely jealous of yall up north with elk, mule deer, and antelope!!!

Thanks for the comments.  Season started here in SE Oregon on Sat and runs throught he 10th.  My boy killed this buck under my tag with Oregon's new "Mentor Program".  Any kid age 9-12 can kill an adults animal if they go throught he proper proceedures.  My boy is 11!
Hey for you folks down south, I dream of going pig hunting. I want to see if my cougar hounds could run one up for me!
