Has anyone used  Glenfiddich Pericles on a heifer?  I have a Heatwave heifer that I am thinking of putting him on.  She needs some hair and bone added.  Hoping to get a decent calf to win County bred with.  We have an Eye Candy steer and I adore his disposition and hair (except for the time it takes to dry)  Galloways are supposed to be super disposition.

Pericles looks like the ideal Galloway bull.  Should have no calving issues with him.

For colored up calves try a Belted Galloway bull.  They will come belted on most solid cows.
They usually weigh 60-70 pounds at birth, ideal for a high-birthweight breed or heifer.
You can breed them a bit younger too.  Calving issues are almost unheard of in Belted cattle.

Good luck young lady!

Pericles has only had limited use on clubby bred females.  We have calved fullblood Galloway, Angus, and Gal X Ang heifers, with no issues.  The reports from those that used him on clubby bred heifers are mixed.  Some had to be assisted with easy to moderate hand pulls, no jacking or c-sections.

To quote Bobby Wellner (Eye Candy),  " Pericles hit it out of the park on a Shorthorn X old style Maine cross cow."

I would think its fair to assume that almost all bulls would have mixed results with heifers. Some heifers just have big BW in their pedigree, i wouldn't worry too much about a few hand pulls.

I wish i could get some Pericles semen up in Canada, I'm only about 2hrs from his breeder but he doesn't have any. HAB have you ever thought about making him available to Canada?

Freerider- Pericles is available in Canada through Genex.  He was collected for export.  He is available in all countries but the EU group.

LOVE them!  Our heifer gets a CIDR put in tomorrow.  I can't wait for a hairy baby.

Okiegirl-Thanks for using him.

Contrary to what people are being told by some Genex reps, Pericles semen is available, and there is no waiting list.  They just have to put out the effort an order it.  Very discouraging to me as a Genex customer.

Thank you,

Harley Blegen
