They gave the job to Gary Patterson from TCU.

Would be a hell of a hire, but from what I am hearing it is not a done deal yet.  GoPowerCat jumped the gun with a press release and deal is not done

So what is Snyder's place then?  Is he planning to step back in if they can't get someone good?  I can see where the last couple years would be pretty upsetting to him.

Lets not forget Snyder was on a steady decline towards the end and left after a losing season. Bringing him back as anything other then a consultant would only hurt the program over the long run. So much of Snyders success came from his assistants many of whom are elite head coaches now. I don't think there will ever be a set of assistants assembled like Snyder had through his tenure ever. Patterson and Venables are probally the 2 hottest coaching commodities in the nation right now and you would think both would want to come back if given the chance. Patterson is the safe choice but I think Venables has more of a upside if they want to take the risk on a unproven coach. I think Venables would also be a better recruiter as he already has shown he can get good players to leave Texas and being from Salina maybe he could get more of the in state players where KU has outdone us over the last few years.

That makes more sense to bring Snyder in as a consultant.  I was listening to some radio show yesterday & they were jabbering about how Snyder was their back burner choice for an interim  coach if they couldn't get anyone else.

Building a winning college football program is a much about recruiting as it is about coaching ability. Bringing back Snyder doesn't get you the recruiting personal you need. That's why he was tailing off at the end of his stint with K-State. Just look at what happened to Nebraska of Tom O. All the recruiting talent left too and that program has never recovered.

Plain and simple K-State needs a great recruiting coach.

I think that they are going after Venables.  At this point in the season, with other teams firing their coach and him being one of the top Asst. Coaches in the nation I think that KSU had to get rid of Prince now so that they could actively start looking for a coach and start talking to him.

How about Snyder, with Venables as Assistant but with a guarantee to take over the program in 2 years.

Is there any talk at K-State of Todd Graham, Tulsa?  This guy needs to be in the Big 12 conference.  He seems to have the handle on assistants, recuiting & offensive power.  He just needs the support of a major program.
