I'm looking for a less expensive way to grow hair and I have read that milk replacer top dressed on the cattles feed will stimulate hair growth. I have had success with shag but I there just so expensive!

Shag is 240 bucks for a 22.5 lbs bag, thats a lot cheaper than 30-40 bucks for a 25 lbs bag of milk replacer, or do u need to top dress a lot more milk replacer to get a similar result?

I used to top dress with the milk replacer. I think it's a double edge sword. Yes it encourages hair growth but with it being so high energy-think hot ration- cattle are warmer and don't grow hair as well. A cooler would solve this.

I am very interested in this post.

I understand the point of the hot ration and body temperature, but our steers are on a hot ration anyway.

My understanding of Shag, Flair, Fire Extinguisher, etc., is that they lower body temperature AS WELL AS contain ingredients that promote healthy skin and hair.

I am wondering if the milk replacement powder is promoting hair growth from a completely different angle?

This is kind of the point that I am getting to with all of these supplements, and I mean no disrespect to the people that develop or promote any of them.  A lot of the reason that this stuff "works" is because we believe that it will.  We fulfill the prophecy.  We believe in it, so we work harder at it.  When it doesn't work, and we call the people that developed it (because they show steers and their steers always have awesome hair), they always know what to do to get them to grow hair.  No hair growth in 21 days?...start on an ice bath...for example.

At the root of all of these supplements are CORE ingredients, which in fact DO promote hair growth.  I have often wondered if milk replacer would do this.  In theory, I believe that it would.  Baby calves always have great hair, and that includes "bucket calves" that are born in June and are on a pretty "hot" grain ration in addition to milk.

If anyone has used milk replacer with any success, or has any input, please contribute.

Thanks

Also how much would you suggest feeding per head/day, I heard 4or 5 ounces a day is the amount that should be fed. Is that what you guys would suggest.
