Opinions on which is the better bull to produce marketable steers or heifers?  Looking for a good TH/PHA Free bull to breed some crossed-up cows to.  Thanks for your thoughts.

hairy bear might have the more powerful calves it has seemed like but i really like the cow power behind hairy. it is a little early to judge hairy too hard but i have seen a couple really thick and powerful hairy steers too.

I really like both seen alot of calves out of the bear but never used him. all the calves i have seen though have been good. On the other side of the hand we have used quiet a bit of Hairy and REALLY LIKE HIM. he sires our most consistent set of calves every year we have used him. our best show steer this year that we are showing is also out of him. Calves out of hairy for us have been very thick but i would like to see maybe a tick more bone at times. but mainly they are CONSISTENT

Furinsilex, bone would also be my complaint with Hairy Bear. He did not seem to add bone over what the cow already had. I also believe they could grow a bit better, but over all I like them. We chose to replace him with Hairy this year. I have been told that Hairy produces better females than bull, but I can't say for certain. I should know more next year. Earl

I have been around both bulls. They both do a very good job. I have seen excellent calves from both bulls. If you have enough cows, I would use both bulls. They are as good as you can get that are TH and PHA free. They have both sired winning steers and heifers, with Hairy Bear having somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-10 sons at stud. We used HB on 2 head this go around. 1 on a HW/Draftpick the other on a HS/Meyers Blacktop.

We used Hairy on a Irish Whiskey cow and have a real nice steer calf. Also using Hairy on Meyer 734 genetics is a good idea for heifer calves. You have Hairy Bear, Hairy, a double shot of 734, Lifeline, and Hairietta all in one calf.....maternal masterpiece
