This cow will not come into heat..we've never bred her before because we bought her in the winter. this is the third time we've given her estrumate (waited 11 days or more in between) and now she has a cyst! what should we do?

Might be the reason you got her in the winter-someone getting rid of a problem cow.

Contact the person you bought her from.  A reputable breeder will stand behind what they sell.  A cyst is a reproductive problem that's unfortunate for you and the breeder that sold the cow.  But, if I sold her, I would buy her back to make it right.

She has nice calves and has had ai calves the past 2 years. she might be the silent heat type. not sure if it is a cyst or a reaction to the estrumate, the right side of her vulva is swollen which is the same side the shot was given on.

We are having the same trouble, she has had two nice heifers, she has a monoploy heifer on her now.  She is not cystic either.  Going to put another cider in her tonight and try the drill again.  Everyone always says to sell a problem cow , but when you have a small herd you take a hit from doing that.  Takes two years to get a heifer bred for a calf.  To replace your going to pay alot more than market price.

She won't cycle if she's cystic and your lute/estrumate will do no good if she's not cycling. Make the seller aware of the problem and decide together what coarse of action to pursue. If you're willing to try, take the cow to a vet and have them remove the cyst and see if she'll then cycle & go from there.

I don't think it was a cyst. Her vulva swelled up so she must have had a reaction to something. It's back to normal now and last night I saw mucus on her tail. This is probably the closest I'll get to a heat for her so I might stick her and off to grass she goes.
