Has anyone else been having troubles this spring getting cows to cycle or show heat? Seems like alot of guys down here in south central nebraska are having the same problems. We had a fairly hard long winter but I'm just not getting what the deal is here. Usually these females cycle and show good heat but its just been a big ? this year. Let me know if im not the only one and any ideas, we put cidrs in early and then gave them a shot 2 weeks later of estrumate and still only have 5 out of 20 bred.... Thanks

Hard winter has a lot to do with it repro condition is always about 6 months behind body condition--  Make sure the mineral program is right--the mineral max program won't hurt,  and run a bit of energy through them-  we use 1/3 corn, 1/3 salt mineral mix, and 1/3 soybean meal-  free choice  work it to about 1/2 to 3/4 lb a day per head and see what might work for you

We started heifers may 10 and in the first 4 days we had already done 24 out of 60 of them so they are cycling really well for coming into heat naturally

I have heard of several people in southern Ohio having problems getting cows to come in heat and also the number of embryos they are getting flushing.  Everything was going good for me untill the last heifer.  I had her marked on the calender for 3 heat cycles prior to when I wanted to breed her and the cycle that I wanted to breed her on and what should of been her next cycle I have not seen any signs.  she has not been exposed to a bull so it has left me scratching my head.  I am going to put a cidr in tonight or tomorrow to hopeflly get her bred.

Most of ours came into heat  with the 7 day CIDR + Gnrh + Lutalyse protocol. Only 3 didn't show heat out of 24 even though they weren't in the best condition.

Are you checking heat at night?  If not you may be missing some that come in after dark and are out of heat by day break.  Otherwise, probably just body condition due to your hard winter.
