Some will disagree with me, and there are exceptions to every rule but...

I consider most (ok, almost ALL) clubby sires to be TERMINAL. That is what they were intented to be used for: steers and market heifers. The HW's I know of are a bit high headed, don't milk well (can you say "creep feed alot??") and are generally hard keeping. Not to mention that the genetic makeup of most clubby sires (including HW's) is a mixed bag and variation is the rule, not the exception.

So, in summary: I do not think clubby sires, including HW's, should be kept for breeding stock.

(OK everyone, I cocked the gun - you have permission to fire!!)

do heatwave 1 daughters make good cows,

The ones I have seen that are good producing females, used him  on purebred females of another breed. There is a gentleman in Ohio that swears by them and has sold quiet a few state fair champs.Just depends on whats on the other side of the mating.

Almost everyone I know that has kept a HW female for a cow has been very disappointed.  I agree with the terminal cross comment on this bull!!
