If you want to stay in the cattle business for years to come I would stay away from HW daughter's. not something I wanna build a cow herd around. Now that's not saying sometimes they don't work, but it is kind of liking getting that "great" steer, it doesn't happen that often. :)

just manage them right just like anything else. they'll be fine. use common sense when buying or selecting for replacements

We sold a Hw 1 heifer two years ago. She lost her calf this spring, but adopted a twin from another cow and is raising it like her own. She has tons of milk, and is doing just fine.

If you get ANY Heatwave daughter to make a cow that milks you are damn lucky. The only one's I've seen that have made good momma's are the one's that are at least halfblood Angus or Simmy and haven't been shown. We have culled all but one,she is Draftpick on the bottom and milked decent for a first calf heifer.

This heifers Mother is a Meyer 734 Grandaughter. The heifer was shown for 1 year before being bred, and turned out with the herd. She might be an exeption to the rule.

imo just use heatwave (&clones) as terminal sires and be done with it.  We don't even get tempted to keep one back.  We plan on being in the cattle business for awhile, and that's how we make our living.  If you depend on the cows as your income you won't have many heatwave cows or you will not be in the beef business very long.
