We have noticed our heifer urinates a lot. Sometimes she will even urinate while laying down, never bothering to get up. Her shavings in her stall are wet all over. She drinks quite a bit of water everyday too. Any suggestions? She eats great, gaining weight, energetic, not symptoms of not feeling well. Sometimes in the course of an hour she will go 2-3 times. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Is she bred?  If not is there a chance she got exposed to a bull or maybe even a steer, and gt the tract irritated.  Urinary calculi is usually the complete opposite symptom, but take her temp and take note of the smell of the urine, and keep watch.  I would also take real close watch when blowing her out, the high volume blowers are causing grains of sand and other foreign matter to raise he'll with the repro tracts. Notice for redness and a lot of tail switching just to scratch an itch.

Thank you for your reply. She is not bred, only 6 months old. Displays no symptoms of discomfort or sickness. Going to call the vet and ask his opinion tomorrow, just thought I would see if anyone has had this issue before. Thank you again!

Might want to get her palpated also. I know seems a bit early but if she has a bad or wrong
tilt to her pelvis she may pool urine and it leak back up and make breeding harder as she will get vaginitis. This is usually not a problem but I have heard of bad cases being a problem with breeding.

My sons Steer was doing the same thing, I asked the Vet and he said that some do more than others due to stress, nervousness, etc. but that if he was drinking ALOT of water as ours was drinking probably 20 gallons a day in the fall, then he was OK. With it being a Heifer, I would probably just ask my vet. But hopefully it is just that she is just a little nervous. Our Steer has stopped, he stopped at about 8 months old. Good luck, hope its nothing serious.

Talked to the vet yesterday and he said it shouldnt be anything to worry about considering she has no symptoms of sickness/discomfort. That some just urinate more than others. Costing me a fortune in shavings though! lol. Thanks!
