My Red Brangus heifer has an issue with chains on her show halter. I have tried everything to putting a halter with a chain on her and letting her wear it for a couple of weeks and I even vet wrapped the chain. When I work with her when she has the halter on, if she hears the chain she starts freaking out. What else can I do? I have a show in 20 days.
Thanks,
HT

have you tried vet wrapping it up to the leather? do it really thick. mabey just tie her up and make the chain rattle where she can see it so she knows where the noise is comming from?

I don't know where they sale them, but I have seen halters with rope on them instead of chain, I know you can have a halter made, email [email protected] he may be able to help you out.

If the vet wrap thing doesnt work. Get a horse lead rope and cut it to a desired length, like 12-15 inches, and use it instead of the chain. Hope this helps!

If she is gentle and handles well on a regular rope halter try a leather dog leash. I bet you could find one that matches the halter, it just won't have the chain. Make sure that the snap is strong enough not to break if you have to stop her.

Good luck

You could use a leather strap from a set of reins or whatever with a snap on the end and cut it to length.  Any leather that matches you show halter should look nice.
