Help to vaccinate or not?/

I have a steer calf that I sold to Texas and he is leaving on Sunday. This calf is leaving south Florida where its around 70 right now and thats cold for us and going to Texas where it is COLD. He has had all his calfhood vaccinations and a follow up booster. The vet thought he would be fine and just suggested that I give him some LA200 before he goes. Going to such a change do you think I should give him another round of vaccinations especially for repitory or just the LA200? Thank you!!!

sent calves last fall from South Dakota to south Georgia and gave them long acting sulfa pills before they left; with pills you do not have an injection site and being long lasting, they covered the calves for several days; all calves arrived in great condition and took off eating good for their new owners.

I would go with your vets suggestion.  Giving an antibiotic as preventive measure is something I do anytime I ship or haul a young animal a long ways.

I would not give a show steer LA200 unless you just don't have an option, it leaves a knot.  We use Naxcel (sp) for long lasting respitory protection and I would do so as the weather is really strange right now.

I agree that there are better options than LA200, we have had great luck with Draxxin. It is expensive , but if your customer is happy, you have a really good chance at a repeat buyer.

if your vet is suggesting LA200 for that scenario, I suggest you find a new vet if you have that option.  he sounds to me like a sawbones.  I suppose every remedy in his bag is either LA200 or penicillin.  Draxxin would be the best.

I had talked to my Vet a few weeks ago and he suggested LA200 usually when their sick he uses a different antibotic but he said as a precaution the LA200 would work. I personally do not like LA200 and only use it when in a bind. Things went so fast on being able to get the calf a ride to TX I was unable to get a vet to come out so I used the LA200 and I will never use it again. The calf had an allergic reaction to it but luckly he has recovered and is doing fine.
