I got a new digital camera for fathers day... and I need some help..as soon as I download a pic to my computer from any source I get lost with how to work with it... I bought and threw away photoshop elements ... is there a reference out there that will walk me through editing, putting 2 pics in one, adding text to the pics.. hopefully even building a page to display them... I need something in my hand  to refer to for each keystroke until I get it figured out...

It sounds like you could use some photo editing software. Photoshop isn't the only one available, and it isn't cheap, but it's the best and the industry standard because you can do pretty much anything if you know how to use it. There are a LOT of tools, though, and it's overwhelming when you start to learn the software. There may be some other already on your computer or another program that's cheaper or more available...just depends on how much you want to be able to do. Without some kind of editing software, I'm afraid the pictures you take are what you have. But you'd be amazed what you can learn to do and how much you can doctor them with a good software program. I'm a graphic deaigner & i don't even touch all the tools in Photoshop! I've learned to do what i need to do with the tools i use most often...

Good luck!

If you are going to use Photoshop, there are some great online tutorials at Lynda.com. Some are free, some you will have to pay for. Also, search YouTube...there are hundreds of free video tutorials there for Photoshop and other editing software. Also, if you are going to buy Photoshop, check with your local college or high school technology department to see if they can help you purchase it at a discount. I hope that helps.

Yep...all good suggestions. I wouldn't pay for tutorials online until uv exhausted ur search for free ones. If u have a software program, I'm sure u can find free help online on navigation, capabilities & tools. Adobe has plenty for Photoshop as well as other software.

Discounted software is available from adobe for students. If you have a student in the family, that might be ur best bet. I bought the Creative Suite while I was going to school working on a graphic design degree, and i'll admit I had some problems with customer service when I had issues. I'm not sure why, but I've since upgraded to a newer version and it's awesome. U can buy Photoshop separately or as part of a package that includes other software...u prob don't need all that, though.

I'm no expert, but lemme know if you have specific questions about tools or capabilities. I might be able to get u pointed in the right direction. There are so many tools, the subject matter becomes way too broad for somebody to be helpful unless you can explain what you need help doing exactly. It takes some time to get good at using it, but once u get some practice u can do some cool stuff. And it does get easier as u go!

thanks for all your replies... I found a photoshop for dummies book at amazon and will probably go with that... there is a local guy that has some knowledge and I will try to get him help me pick the software to start... I am not to good with on-line help as I need to be looking at the work screen and instructions at the same time
