I am kinda new to showing, and have never had a cow that has had this be for. I think it is eather ringwarm or warts, but I'm just guessing. I  would be greatly  appreciated if anyone can tell me what it is, and what to apply.
Thanks in advance, Morris Cattle

Ringworm all right. Apply IODINE! Not Betadine, the "poisonous", purple Iodine. Be careful in handling it. I'd recommend rubber gloves.  :D

We haven't had Ringworm in a while, but when we did get it we'd put Bag Balm on it, or anything to keep air from the fungus.  Once you get some new hair growth, the fungus is dead.

Yep it's ringworm..  we have used iodine with mixed results - and it does have to be the really strong stuff.  We've had the most luck using the antifungal cremes from the vet or something like monostat..  Nothing like the looks you get when you go into Walmart & buy 8 tubes of monostat & 6 cans of Pink Oil.

Thanks everyone for the help, can it spread to other cattle.

Yep, and to you too.  Wash your hands really well after working with the calves (like you probably do anyhow).

You really get weird looks when you are a 18 year old guy buying a couple tubes of monostat LOL!

we tried this the last time we had this problem and it seemed to work well,
scrape off the dead skin with a botblock and then douse with that purple PVC primer, sounds weird but it worked!

Go to www.vittetoe.com.  They have a product that you feed that will stop ringworm.  It is listed in the sheep products but you can use it on cattle.  Cleared it up faster than anything else I have ever used.  Especially on the head, it is too easy to get stuff in the eyes.

We use either just regular spray paint, not show paint but just regular outside spray paint....or fungALL.  You can get fungALL from Sullivan's.
