That's good, I was thinking to myself "he does not look near ready in the photos". Hope you get them to post so we can see him.
Either way good luck!

I know nothing about how they judge these things over there. We are backward over here. To me he looks a bit under done. I realize he is slick taking that into account he is not let down in the flank. His bone to meat ratio is to high to me but that is a distance opinion. I would like to see a pic looking down his back to see how much rib eye he has because it is hard to tell from a side pic and he may well shine in that deparment. I would also like to see some pics of the other steer. JMO

I agree. Pinched girth and flank, appears to be lacking overall muscularity and fat cover, and lots of bone= low yield.
More pics may change my mind, but I'm doubtful. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but, he would be unlikely to win here I think.

I think yall are correct. He has too much frame for me. Too much bone. But the steer was a hard feeder from. Day 1. And at this weight, withoutt having him at 1500. That was all the cover we could get Hm him. Now his topline- is one I think you Aussie would value. He holds water on the top.  He has a freaky neck too me, he actually feels finished he just doesn't look it. He's very long (too long). And covers his tracks at his current weight. So I totally understand what you guys say (don't good back being blunt because I'm guilty of it as well)

P.s I am going to put up more pictures whenever I get a photo bucket account so just hang with me and keep the comments rolling

He looks very loooong to me too.  My son had a steer like this 3-4 yrs. ago.  He did not look finished, but he topped out at 1470.  Just big framed, long bodied.  I think you did a good job with him.  Good luck at your show and let us know how he does.

This is a pretty typical Yellowjacket calf - and in reality they yield a very high dressing %.  Excess fat and general wastiness hits the dressing % a lot harder than bone does.  Calves like this probably have more true muscle in them than just about any calf type, they are just a little heavier finishing that what is considered ideal.

The YJ calves stay sound at this weight because they do carry so much bone and supporting structure - they don't break down.

I like these kinds of calves better than most judges do unfortunately.

Hey man,
Got your email, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.  Quality calf, but like everyone else on here has said there are draw backs, but none that I dont think you reallized on your own.  He is super huge framed, which takes away from the appearance of being finished.  I am with chambero, I like the super big boned ones so I give it him there.  I love his front end and he looks to have some raw power to him.  Will be interesting to see what he does. Some judges will love him, some will hate him.
The other bad thing about being this huge framed is it probably makes him look a lot tighter middled and flanked than he probably actually is.  Nice steer overall, but if your asking my opinion on how he is going to do, I think he is just way over framed to get there. But we will see.
