Do I detect a snippit of hostility, here?the truth said:No you have it wrong, he's a Purebred Red Angus that is even calving ease on a Jersey.
You are lucky that I gave you the time of day to even waste 4 min. posting this response, let alone wasting the SP bandwidth and money your post made.

We do select for calving ease when choosing a bull for our heifers, but there have been plenty of times when they have to get bred by the herd bull because of timing issues, and it turns out fine for us 90% of the time.

How many of your lowline heifers get bred to you shorthorn bull?
no time to AI heifers + a breed of heifers that the contemp males are too mean to own every couple of months = spells the need for an extrme calving ease deal that we can use across the board on all heifers...
Never did a c-section... never plan to. You crank hard enough you can get them out.

What the heck are you talking about? I don't have any Lowlines......all of my Shorthorn heifers get bred to Shorthorn bulls though, and unless it's a special case of having pedigrees too close or something, they get bred to one of our bulls. We AI very few heifers because we own the bulls we choose to use on heifers. So far in my life, this has worked out pretty well for us, but just like everything else, it's not for everyone.
Oh, and we only pulled one calf last year, and yes it was out of a heifers, and yes it was out of our bull, but it was a very very easy pull and the calf weighed 76 lbs. Not bad for a fat ole show heifer!
