How many of the high sellers are actually for real money?  When I hear prices above $12,000, I start to become a bit suspicious.

Over the past few years I have purchased more than one calf from the Keller Family. They are the only people I have bought a calf site unseen. They are hardworking honest family. I believe the $48k if you know them. They ahve worked hard and each year their cattle get better and better.

More than 12,000... theres more of those than i can count. Now the 50s and 60s that have been bought outside of auction are a little unbelievable. If someone priced a calf to me for that high i would laugh in their face, i can't fathom the thought of taking a steer jocks word and giving up 50k for one that nobody else is in on for the same price. Ive never seen one worth that much money, and have seen several for that price.

fed_champions, you make a valid point: $12k is probably a bit too low of a number.  Like you, I am shocked when I hear about steers in the $50k range.  Also, nothing against the Keller steer at $48k.  I saw the video of him, and he's fantastic.  Also, I noticed that the same buyer bought Keller's second high selling steer as well.  Someone is going to have a fun year.

Caldwell heard bought them calves.  There is families out there that have no problem spending that.  They have some of the best eyes in the cattle business buying for them.  There is a lot of people never seen the difference in a high one.

Ive bought two steers for more than 25,000 and both of them returned their money at San ANtonio, and both of them were bought in an auction with contending bidders. Ive seen my fair share of good ones that were bought for cheap and expensive alike, but ive also seen my fair share of high dollar ones that never made it to a major, mainly due to bad feeders. I would much rather sell a calf to a family that can feed, even if it means taking a price cut.
