Bought the arctic mister, put on fan but how close do you put near steer and do you want him to be damp? Not sure of correct way to use it.

You don't want them to be soaked. The point of misters is to cool the air with tiny water particles, and for the mist to evaporate, like a swamp cooler. He should be SLIGHTLY damp after being under the mister for a little bit.  We used to run misters on all the calves, and had them on a timer.

Olson...can I ask what setting you found to be the best (i.e. how many minutes on, how many off)?

It usually went pretty well running it 45 on/15 off.  Just kind of play with it, we got it so our bedding stayed just a tiny bit damp (basically kept it fresh).  If you're getting a wet bed, then back off the amount of water before the amount of time it's on. We adjusted pressure at the hose, jsut turned the valve a little more one way or the other.

We take our nozzles off at night and soak them a few times a week. Keep them from getting stuff built up in them, especially if you are at a fairgrounds with water totally different than that at home. Keeps them from clogging and dropping water instead of misting it as they are supposed to do.
