How to make a heifers flank deeper

I've told my heifer should be deeper in the flank and longer when going through her shoulders and up through her brisket, my breeder told me to feed wet beet pulp and lots of hay but I want to make sure she doesn't get fat or round through her barrel as that's what happens right now, she's won breed champion twice and 3rd overall in champion drive but I'm showing at Houston and my breeder personally knows what the judge likes. All what works well to help get cowlicks out and help stubborn hair stand, not on her legs. If yall want pictures email me at [email protected]

Before this gets too deep you do know you want those Cattle's bellies to appear "big barreled", Right?

We are not far from you guys geographically so I have an idea of what you can and can't feed some of the Yankees have access to different products they'd rather use

Cottonseed hulls, purina ultra full, natural fill, and pre con (you need a prescription) are all on our daily feed program to build belly as well as lots of hay. We feed a starter grower year round that is the highest fiber and roughage % we can get our hands on (producers coop in Bryan)

Never had good results with getting cattle to like eating beet pulp but there's different ways to skin a cat (feeding it wet never made a lot of sense)

All the shows I've been too they hate how big bellied she is, she looks flat hipped and needs to become more defined.

I just got some Precon last week and didn't need a prescription!

If the precon has AS70 in it you need a veterinary feed directive in order to purchase it. If it is plain you will not need a VFD. Depending on your what your retailer floor stocks is going to be whether you need a VFD or not. I would think that most would floor stock the plain to not have to deal with the hassel of a VFD for a couple show calves but I could be wrong.

You can get non-medicated precon but you can't get medicated pre-con unless you have a script from Vet

Our feed store required us to obtain a prescription to feed the medicated pre con which is what we personally use

Didn't want to not mention it and the original poster go to purchase some and be unaware that it may be brought up

There are both medicated and unmedicated version of precon available. The item number for unmedicated is 4689.
