We have a true blow and go show coming up in a few weeks.  In the mean time, we have 4 "fit" shows.  What pointers do you have to help us prep for this blow and go show?  How far in advance do we need to clip?  Do we need to use any additional hair conditioners leading up to show weekend?  If so, what?  Are we worried for no reason?  Suggestions welcome!

Home work is key here. Good hair at home means good hair at the show. Basically just have them boogers really, really clean to help that hair pop. Basically clip just like you would for a fit show, but make sure your legs and tail head are where you want them naturally with no glue. A little pink oil can help the body hair stand up, and some in the legs will help pop it out, too. But, just like with adhesive, put too much in and the hair will get oily and not work very well on those legs. Best of luck.

We usually clip before we go like you normally would, and clip some more at the show to get it just right. There aren't any special conditioners are anything, just do your normal washing/rinsing routine. For show prep blow a little pink in to make the hair pop and shine. Use a wash brush on their legs and comb, comb, comb!!! You have to have worked with their hair a lot so you can make it do what you want. It's a little late to start if you haven't already. I wouldn't worry to much about it though.

Thanks ya'll  ;D  We have been working with these cattle for a while now and feel pretty good about the work we do at home. This show will be a little different for us.  It's always nice to pick up a tip or two from those more experienced.  After the "marathon" of shows we have between now and then, a blow and go may be a welcomed change.  Many thanks!

yeah worry more about the fit shows than the blow and go. if your hair is trained and good youve got nothing to worry about. we clip three days in advance for blow and go's

to keep tail heads up at a blow and go you can use a small hair straightener and some mane and tail conditioner

Thanks for these suggestions!  We have a hair straightener ~ with two girls, it's an essential.  If ya'll think of anything else, do tell. We're eager to learn.

Need to make sure of the rules 1st off.  Some shows blow and go means water only, some mean everything but glue and paint.  Which way your show is depends on what you can or can't do.

Didn't realize there could be so many variations of a blow and go.  Looked at the rules...they say...

The following show ring preparation policy is being implemented for the 2010 Steer, Heifer and Showmanship divisions:  NO GROOMING MATERIAL IS ALLOWED ON THE ANIMAL.  All animals must be washed clean and dried without the use of ANY grooming material/aids (BLOW & GO). The use of brush and /or scotch comb is encouraged.  Animals Will be checked in the staging area.

Thanks again for the tips.  (clapping)

You should be fine using pink, just don't get carried away with it. They'll more than likely wipe the calf's side with a paper towel or a white rag as you walk into the staging area and as long as nothing shows up your fine.

Just be sure to get the calf extremly clean before the show becuase if they do the white towel  test and you use a little bit of pink or anything you can towel out because of the dust or dirt
