I'd  like to hear what you guys do i guess would be the best word or how you guys make your steers the best you can.  What are your guys management practices. Im always told when I'm looking at steers well he could be a killer county fair steer but with the right people a competive state fair steer what do they mean by that what are the management practices to do to have that.  I always thought feed them well and wash and brush thm a bunch in the summer what more is there?

There are just some people who are better at getting calves ready and will be more committed to making the calf the best they can.

Also if they go to alot of shows and have the calves out getting use to it and fitted and clipped every weekend. Also the right feed mixture and time. Along with everything experince have they done something good before or know what to do to be up at the top end every time.

its also the showman at the end of the halter, someone with talent can bring the best out of a calf, on the flip side, a bad showman can knock them down.

All the hair stuff aside... Feeding right from start to finish is the most important thing.  We have 5 different show steers on feed at this time and none of them are getting the same ration amounts.  Some even a different mix all together.  IMO you have to know each calve, what they respond to, and what their individual needs are.  Clean fresh water all the time... No slime here... Showmanship
