Im curious as to how you know that most of the winners are THC? They usually dont test steers....and as for heifers, judges dont looks for the biggest butted, stoutest boned, hairiest heifer in the show ring...And if im not mistaken a lot of registrations will not let animals in if they test positive for PHA or TH. Angus, charolais, simmental, hereford, I am thinking purebred maine heifers too? Not sure.
maybe "these winners" have ben his. and just maybe he tested them.

I said xbred (commercial) or Chi which is commerical I know and the maines will have it in many pedigrees by allowing HW in the herd book before long.
Heat wave is registered MT if I'm not mistaken, not purebred..and it doesn't matter if they test PHA or TH..they wont be let in! But commercial or cross breads or chis are 3 different animals, Since commercial heifers are normally your great cows, not always your best show animals worthy of a breeding beef class, a cross bred could be anything, from chi influence to brahman influenced cattle , or an animal that hasnt had a pedigree or known breeding for 4 generations. Then you do have your chi classes, your normally great looking show animals.
So if you breed HW to a PB Maine and get a hrf then breed that hfr to a PB Maine bull that should give you a 3/4 right?  So all cattle reg with the Maine assn have to be tested TH and PHA free before they can be reg?

I'm not trying to fight with you just asking so I can learn how this works

He is the one who said he was 6...Actually, spring break just began for a lot of schools.

After double checking the AMAA website it does state that the dam and sire have to be tested for both PHA and TH. Couldn't find if they wouldn't allow for purebred registration if the calves were carriers or not. Might have to give them a call to find out!

I dunno about you all, but this indicates R4P and TM are getting their posts mixed up.

Unless they are a donor cow or an AI sire, I don't think they have to be tested to be registered.  I bought a HW heifer last fall that we registered Mainetainer and she has never been tested.
