...take 5 minutes and make sure your domain name is set to automatically renew and that you have the proper billing information with the domain registrar.

Pharocattle.com, one of the most visited independent ranch sites on the net (3rd party tools indicate it gets about as many visitors as Steerplanet), is currently down because they allowed their domain name to expire.

There are people out there who actively search for those types of domain names and snag them as soon as they drop.  Once they have them, they essentially hold them for ransom until you buy it back or they just keep them with an irrelevant PPC page.  Speaking from experience, it can be a royal pain to get the domain back from "Pending Renewal or Deletion" even before a squatter gets it.

If you have a website, do yourself a favor and double check to ensure that you don't waste potential customers because you forgot to update the billing information for a $20/year renewal.

Yeah they got on top of it quickly once they were aware of it.  I called them yesterday as soon as it showed up on my daily list to make sure they knew, they didn't at the time.

If you get the billing straight before it goes on the pending delete list, you can get it back very quickly.
