Does any body have experience or ideas on implanting market heifers?  Our daughter has a market heifer for her first year at county fair.  She is a May Charolais cross calf and the fair is the end of July.  She weighs 650 today so she needs to giddy up and go for the fair.  The problem is we would like to breed her because our daughter is to young to go on to state fair with her and she is too cool  to not breed.  Is their any of the implants we can use to give her a boost and not screw up her repro system???

Thanks in advance!! <cowboy>

I did it and all it did was thicken here up(she was 10 month's old when I did it). I was concerned about it too. I talked to the implant people and they said as long as you give it to them once it would be fine. I have the heifer here at my house. She is 16 month's took her and had here AI'ed last month and I believe she took on the first try.

It can be done with the right implants she should make 1200 -1250 lbs by July with the right feed if you push her a little it may be on the lite side but I dont like implants they seem to put weight on in the wrong places

Thanks for all the input and ideas.  She was gaining real good this fall but seams to have hit a slow spot.  After started this post, I talked with a few others in the area that said they were having the same problem.  I suppose no matter how good of an environment or ration we use, its hard to compensate for a December and January like we have had weather wise.  Suppose to warm up by the weekend a little (20's and 30's)  Temps and windchill below zero for this long are hard on everything.  I think we will leave her natural and hope she starts cranking again when the weather moderates.  Thanks again!!
