The ONLY cow we did not ultrasound nor preg check last spring just calved, twins! Could have seen that one coming. She is 282 days today. Started showing signs of labor last night, so we brought her closer to the house so I could watch her. Mild labor, but not much laying down. My daughter put a sleeve on and palpated her at 10:30 pm, still had not broke her water and the calf was way far back. I figured she was taking her time so checked her several times during the night. She stayed the same so this morning I called the vet (I had to work). He just called me to say he pulled twins, the first was butt first so he was stopping the flow, so to speak! Now get this; she is a Summer Sister x Macho, and the sire is Rendition. Both calves are RED BULLS! My daughter had visions of a black heifer with a white blaze. Oh we'll. at least they are alive. This same cow calved for the first time in the spring of 2011, and lost her calf (she got laid on and smothered we think) just a day after our other cow had twins, so we transferred the free martin on her and she raised it. She then lost her pregnancy at 70 days, so we rolled her to fall. So if she raises both these bull calves, she will have made up for most of the lost time
