I put a sprinkler in our "show" pasture and turned it on about an hour ago, and the cows WILL NOT get out of it!!!! Pictured is a little two year old first calf heifer not dealing with the heat very well...

lots of our cattle are panting right now, not good! Even the shade is miserable, with 98 degree temps and 43% humidity!!! This is high compared to where we are usually at, breaking records all over!

We are 93 degrees, 16% humidity, red flag warnings west-wide, one decent rainstorm since February, not a bit of moisture left in the ground.  Other places not far away are in even worse shape.  Looks like the Texas drought of last year has moved north.  Hate to say it, but I am looking forward to winter -- at least then there is a traditional reason to buy hay and feed cows.  If they were commercial cows I would have taken them to the sale barn a month ago.  Too much invested - guess we'll dump some more money into them.  This is the worst year I can remember here.

Ditto!  We have a couple more degrees of heat, but we don't have the humidity.  Our whole state seems to be on fire.  The cattle, pigs and humans are so miserable.  I hope you get some sort of relief soon.

The entire state of Illinois is in a moderate drought. We are the #2 corn producing state and people are already talking crop failure as it is so dry! The month of June has brought less than 1/2 inch of rain in most locations.  The next 10 days is plus 90 degree heat with no chance of rain.

110 today, 111 tomorrow, 102+ the next ten days, 15-25% humidity.  Corn is holding on, but no one knows how.  If we don't get a rain soon (there is none forecasted for next ten days), the corn will be done.  Already some talk of abandoning 1/2 circles to try to salvage just half as we can't keep up with what little irrigation water we have.  ET's in the .4-.5 range.

Looks to be the same here in Indiana as well. Went up to Lafayette a few days ago and the crops look a little better than what we have in southern Indiana but not much. No rain and 100 degree temps. The ground is so hard that it's almost impossible to drive a post 2 inches into the ground. Some corn is already starting to tassel and no ears are even on the stalks.... definitely not looking good.

Yea, I was up your way on Saturday. I went to Tim Brandenburgs' and from Mt Vernon to about Effingham, the grass was browner than it was all winter long.

I wanna be in this 90+ Illinois.  St Louis area is 100+ actual temperature Thursday thru Sunday.    We have corn tassling that is only 5-6 feet tall.  Our grass is green, but we have good ole fashioned prairie grass so its a bit more heat tolerant.  The cow looks better than she ever has in the past though. Ticks might be the worst I've seen here in a while...picked them off sheep and the cow like crazy tonight especially around ears and their butts.

Very interesting-unfortunate, but interesting. I've been unaware of this hot, dry weather down south of the border. It hasn't been in the news like the Texas drought was last year. Things are almost polar opposite here in Canada (no pun intended).

Here on the east coast we had the driest spring on record and our pastures were starting to look like they do in august but we have received an inch and a half of rain since Friday so hopefully we will be fine.
