I could not be more proud to be not only a country gal, but a country music fan when the wounded marine was given a longer standing ovation than any singer.
I could not be more proud when the message delivered by Tracy Atkins was given a standing O also.

Way to go country music and Tracy Atkins!

"Its not about the war, its about the warrior."  Quote from the wounded marine soldier.

That was cool! We should not be ashamed to celebrate our military men and women and our love of this country.

Tonight is a night to be proud to be an American.  The reaction of the wounded soldiers in the audience brought me to tears.  Not everything is dim in the news today!!  If only this could be a front page story tomorrow.  These things such be a feature.  We all should be proud of our warriors whether people believe in the war or not, we need to believe in the soldier.  Thank you Trace!!

That was a very moving presentation! Too bad it had to follow Carrie Underfed and her fake gratitude!!

I talked to three Marines on my flight home from Louisville last week.   They were home for a short break before leaving for Afghanistan.    I make it a priority, as I travel, to take the time to shake hands with all the service people I meet, look them in they eye, and thank them for their service to our country.  Many of them are shocked to actually have someone thank them rather than make fun of them.   I always try to part with the words "I'm proud of you!  Take care of yourself and godspeed coming home!"  I've actually had a few pretty stern looking cats get a little choked up not to mention the old Iowegian getting that way himself.  I've met some really wonderful young folks from many different backgrounds and have always been deeply humbled by the experience.  I encourage all of you to greet the enlisted men and women you meet and thank them for their service.   Believe me it will give you a whole new perspective and just maybe you'll make their day as well!!

back when sparta and athens fought, it was about the farm and how long people could afford to spend away from the farm to fight a war.

for me, more and more, both wars have long since lost their reason.  if i was a woman, i think i'd have a dog in the fight.  the thing to do was remove the capability for force projection.  when it appears, tamp it down.  nothing more is required.
