I just would like someone to lay the groundwork for me in what i should be looking for in market and breeding hogs. My knowledge for this species is somewhat limited. Just speel out what you think i should know. thanks I just want to know more

In all judging situations my four main things are, in no particular order, muscle ( amount of muscle/meat), balance ( does the front end of the animal match the back end of the animal), structure ( how they walk, bone structure), and volume ( how large is the animal).  When placing animals, you should follow the winner with like and kind.  In market animals you should be looking for finish and muscle/meat. In breeding animals you are looking for muscle that they would pass down in their litters but more importantly structure. If they do not walk well they will not be good breeders.  I would suggest going to university websites with a livestock judging section. This will help a lot.

Look up judging hogs on YouTube. I always remember structure is number 1 in both breeding, balance also it key, then capacity in breeding and muscle in market. I find with market classes many people give up balance because it has alittle bit more muscle, but my personal preference is to find a happy medium between the two.
