Just when I thought I knew something

My 3 kids show pigs & steers- they get their own steer from the start, but with the pigs we see who puts in the most work and that child gets the best pig- Clearly my son rose to the top this year, way outworking his sisters- so he got what we all thought was the best pig.  Well- one of his sisters got grand champion (overall) of the show and the other sister got 4th overall- (Only 4 sale in our county).  Go figure- that's okay- he ended up get reserve champion steer.  Funny how it all works isn't it!

I always find it amazing when my children have what I think is the "best" pig we've ever raised and it stands fourth in class at the county fair.  Other years, a pig I'm not terribly fond of wins its class and ends up in the final drive.  It's all relative to what the competition brings.
