"Coon footed" is a description that I'm often hearing, but don't really know what it means. Could some one chime-in and explain this to us?  I thought it might be referring to soft pasterns but probably wrong.

Coon-footed is an old time horse expression. In horses it was a fault that meant that the horse was weak pasterned. It is the complete opposite of being too straight on the rear pasterns, as many of todays show cattle are. Even to the point of what we call popping the rear pasterns. I don't know Mr. Kroupa, I only know of his reputation, but I am sure he means it to be a positive trait. JMO Earl

Coon footed in lay man terms is extreme structural soundness to a point of where it is almost unsound.  This is a positive attribute in today's industry since many bulls are throwing calves that are too straight.

so we breed cows that are extreme in a trait to bulls that are the opposite extreme and expect the offspring to be ideal.  ::)

Why not simply demand that our bulls AND cows be decent footed?  Maybe then club calves could have something besides a negative image amongst others in the industry.

I look forward to this sale book every year because of the footnotes. Not everyone can pull this off, but GK does. I agree its a nice change of pace

HOWEVER....

Whats the deal with the Walks Alone - Miss Perfection - 602... stuff? Did i read that right? was he insinuating that Walks Alone comes from the 602 line and not what he is advertised as? Did anyone else take it that way?

IF he is from that maternal lineage, he sure doesn't look anything like the rest of them.

but high comedy all around, love this sale book every year. also those thomas outlaw daughters are impressive. I was happy to see a little different genetics represented this year.
Yes to the 602 deal. I believe he traces back to Draftpick x miss perfection or Draftpick son x miss perfection. Thats the way I heard it
