Has anyone ever put lights on a timer to make steers BELIEVE that the days are getting shorter?  Just gradually shorten the amount of light they are exposed to so their natural instincts will kick in.

I understand the Melatonin...keep them in the dark...cool...brush...rinse...all that stuff.  Aren't we really trying to convince them that the days are getting shorter so you better start growing hair?

Would this work?

why not just put them in the dark w/ a night light?

That is exactly what I would do.  But, I would put the night light on a timer so that they are exposed to "x" amount of light today, "x" - 5 minutes tomorrow, "x" - 10 minutes the next day etc...

I was just curious if anyone had done this.

The bottom line is when the calf's natural instincts cooperate with this hair growth thing, they will grow hair REALLY fast!
