I have a Miniature hereford/angus cross heifer that I am trying to figure out how to breed. She is smaller framed but she isn't miniature. I am thinking about AI breeding her to a calving ease clubby bull, but I am not very familiar with club calf breeding, and I am open to breeding her to a purebred low birth weight bull. Our miniature Herefords have 50-60 lb calves, so I'm thinking that this heifer could handle up to 75. She is 600 lbs and 43 inches at the hip, so a little small for her age. Any suggestions on how I should breed her are welcomed. Thanks.

I would be suggest something very proven. Our Red Towaw Integrity 17M sire that is extremely easy calving. Here is a daughter that won her division in Denver.

I have  good luck with i67 i80 and tiny Tim but most of my heifers are bigger framed. I would really be worried if she has much mini in her I would probably go angus

Here is something different for you.

Just pulled him off some cows.

Calves should be 60-70 pounds.

A mini baldy heifer??  Don't shoot for the moon on her first calf.  Breed her to a Lowline, Dexter, Jersey or Long Horn for a first calf.  Your goal should be a live calf and healthy second calf cow.  If you absolutely need a clubby bull, possibly Lautner's Lowrider.  Save the heifer for her best work on her next calf.  She will pay you back with more calves and less headaches later on.

Schefielbein effective gave us a 55lb calf and gains like crazy. I'd recommend him for any first time calver.

I'd second the Effective suggestion as a fool-proof calving ease sire.  I think a Chihuahua could calve to him.

I'm sorry but if you have to go to a longhorn or jersey, you. Ain't got much to work with.  Above and beyond  red angus has been proven for half a dozen years and hasn't blown up yet. 50 to 60 lbs and very active.  Don't get too wrapped up in the bw deal,  just pay attention to shoulder shape and don't let them carry past.
