I have a cow that got Mastitis bad last year and appears to be getting it his year. Will she get it every year or do you think its just coincidence? Thanks

I don't know about every year but if the calf doesn't get the infected 1/4 sucked out it may get bad enough she will lose the 1/4. You don't want that. If you could get her locked up and either get another calf to get that sucked out or strip it out so her baby will get it then maybe next calf she will be ok?

I don't usually do anything with them. Just ship them but if it is a special cow a little work mite be in store! Good luck

Thanks for the response, last year we drained it and everything went fine. She is a ok cow but not a "great", so I am thinking about just shipping her. Kind of want her to wean a calf first though.

I got some beef x dairy cows we use as recips and some of them if they are not perfect uddered will get pretty bad. Once they lose a 1/4 or two they just go down the road. Can't say I have ever had one get "sick" from mastitus tho. I think you will be ok. Cows are high enough someone will take her off your hands!

Exactly, with prices they way they are I am not sure there is a "wrong" decision.
