My daughter's steer (she's 8, this is her first year showing) has started kind of throwing his head at her and getting it down when she's walking him. He doesn't do this with me when I work him. I tried one of the clip in nose rings and he flipped- and he's usually calm. Would a pronged lead be the next thing to try? We tie him up atleast an hour or more a day- I really think he does it with her because he knows he can get away. She's weighs 80 pounds vs. his 900- so I want to stop this before it gets to be an everyday thing. Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance!

You are right he is probably doing that because he knows he can. He might eventually stop doing it as time goes on and she practices with him more. The best way to fix it is to not let him do it. I know it might be hard for your daughter but that is the best solution. Maybe try walking him with her and try to correct the bad behavior.

A second lead held by a stronger person walking on the show side has worked for us in an effort to prevent the head lowering and butting. The chain lead with prongs makes it easier for smaller kids to keep the head up.
