I heard from a friend that she plays soft/easy sounding music (and said she's actually played Mozart) in her barn and it calms her horses, I was wondering if anyones tried that on their calves and if it works?

We've played typical country music to get them used to loud noises, but I havent tried soft sounding music

Heard the same theory with my daughters first year.  We tried it.  I put a cheap radio from Walmart  on AM 24 hrs a day by its pen.  He settled right down. Funny how he preferred old country.  Well when he went to the terminal fair so did the radio.  No one seem to mind.  The day of show, we found the radio in 3 pieces at the door to the barn.  My daughter knew he was not going to be the same.  He was standing and uneasy.  He didn't sleep all night.  We was a mess all day.  He didn't drink or eat and was spooky all day.  I noticed the radio was also my daughter comfort zone.  When she ffound the radio broken, she was also spooky.  They both didn't show with confidence.  Now we do not have a radio.  The animals comfort zone is my daughter and vice versa.  So far so good.

(lol) Nothing spooks my calves after my younger cousins come around!  It can be pretty intense at the beginning but after a bit they just become little pets.

Cattle can be around dogs, cats, and all sorts of smaller 4-leggeds, but have a little bitty kid come around the first time and they seem to go nuts.  Don't know what it is about little kids, but they really give cattle the heebie jeebies.

I know they used to play music in the milk barns all the time for the cows. Grandpa said it helped keep the cows calm, Calm = more milk

I have played soft rock, Motown while I'm washing, grooming, cleaning the pens etc.......... for years. Before long they are chewing their cud so hard they have foam dripping out of their mouths. They seem to love it.
I know they played Andrea Bocelli for at least 30 minutes every time  for Seattle Slew before he went to the breeding barn. ;)

A heifer I showed a couple years ago absoutly loved my brother, who was about 5 at the time. He could lead her everywhere and even now that shes a big cow, she still lets him lead her

I don't know for cattle, but the kids raise market turkeys.  Several years ago my daughter read a study (i think from Tx A+M) that classical music increased rate/ total gain for poultry.  The study compared different types of music.  We've played it ever since and have done VERY well.
