I am very new to this site and chatting but I am looking for some helpful pointers. First off my daughter has a Texas Hold Em steer (Habegers) for this years county fair in Minnesota. This steer has very good legs, sound, and straight across the back. Also very much a show off but he doesn't seem to be developing in his top line like we would like. He seems to be very gant across the topline. We are feeding a grain ration which has Purina Show Chow in the ration and also feed some long stemmed hay. We are somewhat new to the beef area. We used to milk cows until a tornado took us out and both my husband and I showed dairy so we are still learning but have made this very much a family hobby. My daughter will be in her third year showing beef now and has learned a great deal each year. It is not always about winning but we have very high hopes for this amimal. We are estimating that he weighs apprximately 1,000 to 1025 lbs. We would like him about 1250 for our county fair in July and about 1300 to 1350 for state fair, if he makes it. We have a smaller beef show so hopefully. Any suggestions would be great.
My other daughter has a Texas Hold Em (Habegers) Heifer. We say she has an eating disorder. We had her on what we thought was a small grain ration, as well as long stemmed hay. She seemed to be developing beautifully until one day we went out to the barn and she was bloated and we had to stick her. This has happened twice and she seems to be okay now and we feed her a very minimal amount of grain and a lot of long stemmed hay. Without the grain she does not seem to look as well. She is very long bodied though. Any suggestions for her? Also any suggestions on what you would AI her with? We have a registered Black Angus herd bull but we would like something fancy but ease in calving for first calf.
Any show pointers anyone has would be great!!!
