Well my hubby went away for the weekend AGAIN. I still have two cows to calve and one calf in the sick pen that does not look so good, so I need your help. Please keep me company. More name the bulls and some jokes would be great. Thanks Frostback.

I have studied that cauliflower sheep picture till my eyes hurt and still can't tell....what the heck are the legs and head made out of???? Those are GREAT!
So frostback, when I am nervous, bored, or just looking for something to do, I bake.....(and then I eat, but that is another story!)
Bake some cookies! My favorite: Chewy Choc Chip: 1 c. butter shortening, 1/2c margarine, 1 1/3 c. B. Sugar, 1 1/3 C surgar, 3 eggs, 2 t. real vanilla. Mix till fluffy. Then add 1 1/4 t. b. soda, and 3 1/3 c flour. Mix well. Then add choc chips and M&M's . Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. YUMMY. I take to neighbors and pass them out. You would be amazed how much help I get when I need it!!!!!

Not nervous about staying by myself as much and MAD I didnt get to go to Texas, it was a good time the last two years. By the way down to one cow to calve, so I am a little tired as she didnt start till 11 and then had it around 3. Did get in a few naps between checks so baking some cookies sounds like something I could do today that would not take too much effort, thanks for the recipe Ill try them and surprise the kids. Also will give me something to bribe them with later.
The calf looks OK and giving up on them is something I never do. This year I had about 7 that I had to IV and give electrolites to that could not even hold thier heads up. I also had to treat about 15 more that never got that bad and only lost two. It has been one of those years. This one is on his second round of scours.
The sheeps legs are probably made of clay. I have a 5 year old that likes kids shows.

You maybe need to read the thread about dead calves posted by DL. Although yours aren't dying, it seems like you are struggling w/ them.
any reason why such weak calves? You mentioned scours, is that a factor?

Yes scours are the factor. We had such a wet spring that the calves were drinking out of puddles then one would poop in it and the others would drink get a little sick then drink more of the dirty water and get sicker. We were out with little sump pumps and shovels cleaning out a pen(about 3 acres) in late feb,we had a little snow then in Colorado. We started putting the calves in a different pasture and that helped but still have a few. I am catching them early and not having to treat more that twice or three times and doing better. Also a friend of ours told me what to use and things are better, and giving the new babies stuff down their throats early. Seems to have helped.
