there are lot's of stock people in the santa ynez valley and the foothills around LA.  my farrier just went on a ride with a riding club reagan belonged to, mostly old money types, land grants, other large land holders.  it was a men's only affair.  but with interst like that in that area there has to be something around by word of mouth.  monte roberts in solvang has hired interns from cal poly, he's kinda controversial, but has been around a long time and knows thoroughbreds and stock horses and who needs work.  farriers are also a good source for word of mouth.  lots of these jobs down there are to be found that way.  two show steer related ranches are the flynns near galt, and texeira's.  i'm sure they could send you in the right direction.  also cal poly slo and pomona animal science would be a place to ask.
